Aggressive Advocacy.

Are you are going through the physical and emotional pain of a burn injury that has been caused by the negligence of someone else? Because of this person's negligence, you are suffering the effects of the burns, as well as the psychological trauma that comes from the disfigurement and the scarring.

As it stands, the American Burn Association states that 500,000 burns occur annually that require medical attention and 4,000 of these end in death. Each year 40,000 individuals are hospitalized due to their burns, with a large percentage of them being the result of auto accidents and house fires. A smaller percentage is the result of occupational hazards.

To speak with a burn injury attorney in Minneapolis today, call Meshbesher & Associates at (612) 200-1526. We offer free consultations.

There are three layers of the skin that protect your tendons, ligaments, muscles, and bones. They are the epidermis, which is the outer layer; the dermis, which is the second layer; and the fatty tissue that serves as the third layer of protection. Each layer serves its own purpose. For instance, the outer layer protects against infection and injury with the second layer giving our skin its elasticity. The third layer is critical in that it contains hair follicles, fat cells, and sweat glands.

Burns to these layers of skin cause the fluids within the body to shift and, depending upon how much of the body is burned, certain procedures have to be performed to restore as much balance as possible. For instance, fluid resuscitation must be performed within 24 hours of the burn if more than 20 percent of the body is affected.

The following are the categories in which burns are classified:

  • First-Degree Burns: This is common, such as the last sunburn you had. Only the outer layer of your skin is affected and it usually does not blister. This lack of blistering means that it is very unlikely any scarring will occur.
  • Second-Degree Burns: The entire epidermis is affected and may even reach the top of the dermis. Blisters form with these types of burns, increasing infection risk and the probability of scarring.
  • Third-Degree Burns: The epidermis and dermis are destroyed, the fatty tissue level is reached and, in some cases, may be partially or completely destroyed. If the burn reaches the bone, it is actually considered a fourth-degree burn. These burns are those that tend to result in death.

The treatments are expensive and the damage is permanent, which is why it is a must that you do not have to deal with the financial consequences. You do have the right to pursue the responsible party for compensation that will pay for the damages done to you.

Your Minneapolis burn injury attorney will look at your case from every angle. It will be confirmed who the responsible party is, what damages were done what amount needs to be pursued, and any evidence in the case will be gathered. There are many ways that your attorney can make the law work in your favor so that you do not have to pay the financial consequences of someone else's actions.

The damages that will be pursued include medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, the cost of long-term care, the cost of child care due to you being unable to fully take care of your children while recovering, and anything else deemed appropriate in your case.

If you or a loved one has been injured or you've had a loved one die as a result of their burn injuries, you need to seek compensation from the responsible party. We can help you with our experience and aggressive approach while offering you the support you need during this difficult ordeal.
